"Reduce, Reuse… Compost" by Catie

Some suburbs have a three-bin waste disposal program, which separates and transfers recycling, green waste, and general waste to the appropriate facility. For others like mine, you have two options: recycling and general waste, with all that valuable green waste ending up in landfill.

Well, what can we do about that? A little green waste, in general, helps to break down general waste but only by a little.

The solution is simple. Any loose/dead wood can be dried and cut down to fit into an attractive fire pit for winter. Or check your green waste collection days and leave them neatly on the verge to be picked up.

Anything smaller than branches can be removed and put in the compost bin, which isn’t that expensive from Bunnings.

Any bit of green waste from your garden and kitchen can be placed in the compost bin, including teabags and eggshells. Keep an eye on it and occasionally stir with a stick if yours doesn’t turn itself.

In a few months, you will have some lovely free compost to spread around your garden, providing your plants with nutrients and moisture.

Or you can have Leafe Life pick up all the green waste ASAP.
