Blossom into Spring: Gardening Tips for Perth’s Glorious Season

Spring has sprung in Perth, and it is the perfect time to breathe new life into your garden. Leafe Life is excited to share some essential gardening tips for spring. With these insights, you can make the most of this beautiful time of the year and cultivate a garden that is full of colour and vitality.

  1. Plant Native Wildflowers:
Spring is the wildflower season in Western Australia, and it is the perfect time to celebrate our native plants. Consider adding varieties like kangaroo paws, paper daisies, and everlastings to your garden for a burst of local colour.
  2. Pruning and Trimming:
Spring is an excellent time for pruning and trimming. Trim back overgrown branches and dead foliage to encourage healthy growth and improve the overall appearance of your garden.
  3. Fertilize Your Garden:
As your plants will start blooming in Spring, they will benefit by spreading some fertilizer. Slow-release fertilizers provide essential nutrients for growth and flowering. Speak to Tanya about the right fertilizer for your varieties of plants in your garden.
  4. Weed Control:
Spring rains could promote weed growth, however as we head into the hotter months, certain weeds will start withering away and dying. Consider using mulch to suppress weed growth while retaining moisture in your soil.
  5. Mulching and Soil Enrichment:
Apply mulch to your garden beds to retain moisture and maintain consistent soil temperatures. Additionally, enrich your soil with compost, fertilizers or additives to ensure your plants have the nutrients they need to grow.
  6. Watering:
Winter months in Perth are our rainy months and less rain falls in Spring, so it is essential to monitor your garden’s moisture levels. Check your reticulation to allow for the changing weather, and water early in the morning or late in the afternoon to reduce evaporation.
  7. Pest Watch:
Spring is a time when garden pests become more active. Keep an eye out for aphids, snails, and caterpillars, many pest control products are available, natural products such as Neem Oil are useful to protect your plants.
  8. Plan for Summer:
Use the spring season to prepare your garden for our Summer months. Check your reticulation for any issues, and consider adding native plants or suitably sized trees to beat our hot temperatures.
  9. Attract Pollinators:
Pollinators like bees and butterflies are essential for a thriving garden. Plant nectar-rich flowers such as jasmine, callistemon, banksia to name a few; to attract and support these beneficial insects in your garden.
  10. Embrace Colourful Annuals:
Spring is all about vibrant colours. Planting some colourful annual flowers like petunias, marigolds, and pansies for a burst of colour.
  11. Perth Nurseries and Garden Centres:
Perth has some of the most beautiful Garden Centres and Nurseries where you can support local businesses and discover new plant varieties, gain inspiration, and connect with other gardeners.

We hope these tips can help you embrace the beauty that Spring has to offer. If you have any questions about your Spring gardening needs, please call Leafe Life. We are here to help you so you can enjoy your beautiful outdoor space.

Advice On Spring
